Drinks
Well its getting cold now and for those of you looking for something a bit different to drink, some of the funky cafes in Adelaide are really getting creative and opening us up to some fantastic ideas. Some of you might be trying to avoid coffee or, like me, are sick of paying for a herbal tea, which is just boiled water with some supermarket special tea bag popped in!
Here are a few of my favourite drinks, you can make at home or try out, at Adelaide cafe spots.
GINGER, LEMON, TURMERIC TEA (Drink)
This tea, I discovered at Pickle in the Middle its a hot brew of juiced turmeric root, ginger root, lemon and agave. Delicious and satisfying. You could use stevia or honey if you prefer.
CHAI TEA
Lets get one thing straight, when you order a chai latte at most cafes, what you are actually buying is a concoction of syrups and additives. Nutrition Republic make a fantastic chai tea, the real deal, out of a number of different milks of your choice. Below is how to make your very own chai at home.
Ingredients
– organic chai tea, 1 cup water, 1 cup organic coconut milk
Method
– place water and coconut milk into a pot, add 2 tsp of chai tea and bring to the boil
– let it sit for a few minutes, then strain through a tea strainer and serve, makes 2 cups of chai tea
*you can store in the fridge for 24 hours (store prior to straining). When ready to use just bring to the boil again and strain, ready to drink.
*chai tea is made up of – black tea, cloves, cardamon, ginger, nutmeg
TURMERIC LATTES
Why not try a tumeric latte, absolutely lovely, many cafes are making them with coconut milk. If you prefer a more subtle taste then skip the coconut milk and go for a different milk!
If you have tried out different warm drinks at some of our cafes in Adelaide please share, I would love to know!
Ps – Some of these wonderful whole food cafes can get a little heavy handed with their natural sweeteners such as honey, agave’s etc, if you are being mindful of your sugar load, natural or otherwise you may want to let them know that you will add it yourself.
PPs – A word for cafes, please do serve us herbal teas in a tea pot with fresh herbs sitting to brew, we love the experience, it makes herbal tea drinking far more enticing and we will be back and we are happy to pay for that 🙂
Enjoy
Maria
